Ricarda literally tattooed heartbreak lyrics set in ABC Honeymoon (out today) onto ten bodies, making this the first typeface campaign I can think of that will last a few lifetimes </3

I called Ricarda to hear about her work as a CD, film director, and newborn tattoo artist. You can read our conversation below (:

Hey Ricarda... tell me, where did you grow up?

Ricarda: I grew up in different places—but mostly in a small village where there was nothing going on. I was an internet kid, obviously. I was in love with the forest and the internet.

The forest and the internet. I feel like this describes your aesthetic pretty perfectly.

Ricarda: Yes. I draw a lot of inspiration from the forest. There was one behind our house where I grew up. When I was young I was scared of the forest and the creatures living in it. But I learned to experience the beauty and the magic of it. There is such a beautiful silence in the forest. And the internet… My older brother introduced me to that world—and i never left it.

I heard you went to business school?

My parents encouraged me to do something safe, so I studied business. I’ve always had a thing for numbers and structure—they inspire me and give me a sense of security. You need to be disciplined to study at a German university, but somehow, I still managed to attend an independent art school at the same time and got into my first styling assistant jobs.

I noticed online that it’s hard to find a single title or role that describes you. When people ask you what your job is, what do you say?

I visualize my dreams and imaginations. Every detail in my work is intentional and everything I do leaves an imprint. I work as a director and creative director. Sometimes I find myself going beyond what I signed up for. When you care about the outcome you do whatever it takes.

Do you feel restricted by the way the industry enforces roles?

I kind of do not want to give these thoughts much room. I’d rather let my work speak.

A true Dinamo-style monospaced Script typeface for all our friends and lovers. Containing romantic features such as single-width uppercase alternates, extravagant swashes, and other celebratory alternates.

What was your idea behind the Honeymoon campaign?

Our idea was to capture heartbreak. A contrast to the dreaminess of the Honeymoon typeface. Love and pain exist so close together, they’re almost indistinguishable at times. Tattooing reflects this beautifully—it’s intimate, permanent, a reminder of both desire and loss.

People shared their heartbreak stories with me and we translated them into tattoos: letterings like “so sad, so sexy”, “changes”, and “cry baby”. The words hold deep personal meaning for each person. A small but permanent echo of their emotions.

What do you like about tattooing?

Ricarda: Tattoos are forever. (At least, most of the time). A brief moment becomes a lasting memory, written on the skin.

Pamela no more -.-

How do you choose what you listen to while tattooing?

Ricarda: Tattooing is a sacred experience, and the music I choose becomes part of that moment. I’m drawn to ethereal sounds. I love classical music but I also have a huge thing for pop music. It’s all about the energy of the moment. Not only in tattooing – I have a soundtrack for everything I do.

Non-tax-deductible expense

What are you currently working on?

I’ve signed NDAs so i can’t share much yet. I work with AI a lot. And I’m also working on some personal projects at the moment. I love personal work, it gives me space to reflect, process, and slow things down a little. I am very bored of the fast pace of the industry and social media lately. It creates so much copy pasting.

Facts. Thanks for taking to us! xx!

That’s it for today. Happy Honeymoon release day!

Oh and you should know that Ricarda has a banger playlist titled “555” that she updates weekly. Check it out here >>>
